Stone Hill Estate

A complete transformation of a late 1970s spec house into a bespoke country estate nestled within seven acres of natural woodland.

The house is situated on a hill above Stone Hill Road in Bedford, NY, adjacent to a working farm, a spring-fed pond with mature trees, and a beautiful, lush landscape. Essential site features were preserved along with other enhancements to the landscape. A new slate roof with multiple shed dormers extends the views and brightens the interior space.

The building required much-needed improvement, which led to a total restructuring and reimagination of the home for this young family. Multiple new additions to the building allowed for reconfigured floor plans on all levels to be integrated with specific program elements that are bespoke to the owner’s particular needs and activities

"Architecture is an art when one consciously or unconsciously creates aesthetic emotion in the atmosphere and when this environment produces well-being'"
Luis Barragan

The goal was to balance the pragmatic with what is pleasing and beautiful to create an atmosphere that promotes a sense of calm and well-being within the daily requirements of family life. High-quality materials, finishes, and textures recombine in this pleasing interior.
